I'm not sure I am able to remember precisely if age experienced priority about gender or vice versa. There would certainly be exceptions, e.g. if somebody was sufficiently vital, they would be preceded by a herald who would announce them; It might be very very clear that the herald was performing on behalf with the VIP, and never on his own behalf.
